Massachusetts State Trooper hurt in Mansfield car accident

A Massachusetts State Trooper was hurt Thursdsay night after  squad vehicle was struck by another vehicle in Mansfield, according to the State Police.

The state trooper was assisting in the investigation of a motor vehicle accident on southbound Interstate 495 around Route 140 when his vehicle was hit around 7:40 p.m. Details of the accident the trooper was investigating haven’t been released.

The trooper was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.

The accident remains under investigation, according to a spokesman for the State Police, so it has not yet been determined whether the driver who struck the trooper will face any charges. A cause for the accident also has yet to be determined, and the driver of the vehicle that struck the trooper has not been publicly identified.

This sad event shows that anyone, even very careful drivers and state troopers, can become victims of car accidents. Often, though not always, these accidents are the result of “the other guy” driving unsafely or inattentively.

In situations where a car accident can be attributed to a driver’s negligence, injured parties or the families of loved ones who died in the accident choose to file lawsuits. When they are successful, these lawsuits can compensate for medical expenses, funeral bills, lost wages and the like.

If you are ever involved in a car accident, or if someone you love is involved in one, legal representation is an option you ought to consider very carefully.
