Boston Scientific hit with suits over gynecological devices

Boston Scientific Corp. is embroiled in a wide-ranging cavalcade of product liability personal injury cases that plaintiffs’ lawyers say could rival the silicone breast-implant settlements in the 1990s, which cost Dow Corning $3.2 billion.

The Natick, MA medical Device firm is one of 33 companies including Johnson & Johnson, that manufacture transvaginal mesh kits for the treatment of two common gynecological conditions – stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. The devices are alleged to have caused more than 1,000 adverse events, including three deaths.
